Korean skincare routine order, morning and night

The order you apply skincare matters. The rule of thumb in Korean skincare is thinnest to thickest: watery layers first, richer layers last, and sunscreen to finish the morning.

Morning routine

  1. Cleanse: a gentle gel or foam cleanser.
  2. Tone: a hydrating toner or toner pad.
  3. Treat: a serum for your goal, such as hydration or brightening.
  4. Eye care, if you use it.
  5. Moisturize: a cream or gel cream.
  6. Protect: broad spectrum sunscreen, every day.

Night routine

  1. Cleanse.
  2. Tone.
  3. Treat: serums, and retinal or exfoliating acids if you use them.
  4. Eye care.
  5. Moisturize.
  6. Optional: an overnight mask or lip sleeping mask as the very last step, one or two nights a week.

Why the order matters

Lighter, watery products absorb best on clean skin. Creams and masks form a comfortable layer that holds everything underneath. Sunscreen goes last in the morning so nothing disturbs its protective film.

How many steps do you need?

The famous 10-step routine is optional. Three steps (cleanse, moisturize, protect) is a great start. Add a toner and a serum when you are ready, one product at a time.
